Random

I wanted to give you something inspiring today, but it's been crazy over here. I'm sorry. (I always feel like I should stockpile posts for days like this.) Or I should've done Alex's blogfest...

Of course, the minute I post this, I'm going to think of all the things that have been rattling around in my brain the last few days.

Like how the cover of Entertainment Weekly is about gay teens on television (my finger = on the pulse), and how my good friend, a single dad in his early 30s, told me there's a new show on SciFi starring a vampire, a werewolf, and a ghost all living together. He said it's really good, and I should watch it. I dunno...

He also said (just like JRM did!) that Black Swan is just a remake of Showgirls. I never saw Showgirls, but I did see Black Swan and really liked it.

I thought it was an interesting, artistic portrayal of an obsessed dancer's descent into madness.

I also had this lady sitting behind me in the theater LAUGHING (loudly) at every (supposed to be) creepy or disturbing scene. No joke.

The part where she's *a'hem* on a journey of self-discovery and she sees her mother in the room? BWA-HAHAHA!!!

The part where she hallucinates a friend in her bedroom--BAH!!! The part ... well, I won't spoil the movie. You get the idea.

Naturally, I snorted and started giggling along with her. I'm like Dolly Parton in Steel Magnolias: Nobody laughs or cries alone in my presence.

Over the weekend, I was again thinking about how much I enjoy writing for sheer entertainment value. And if I were to characterize myself the way they characterize musicians, I'd say I was a Pop Writer. (You?)

My ultimate goal is to make readers laugh, cry, scream, and beg for more--all with multiple exclamation points.

In conclusion, I feel like my silly cold's back. And yesterday I was feeling so overwhelmed, I had to run down and stare at the waves until I finally relaxed. Decisions, man...

Have a great week, reader-friends! I'll try to be more thought-provoking on Thursday~ <3

That person would have driven me nuts! ;)

Unless I saw where she was coming from. Then I probably would have laughed too.

Maybe she had to laugh because she couldn't handle crying. I'm sorry you had to sit in front of someone like that. How nice you live close to the beach though, an can go out and look at the waves when you want. So jealous.

I remember watching Dangerous Liaisons and this guy laughed at every awful thing the Vicomte did and said to poor sweet Madame de Tourvel. I wouldn't mind but it wasn't even funny. I wanted to hit him on the head to make him stop! LOL!!

I saw Showgirls and that awful!!!! It was so awful I really enjoyed it!! LOL!! So maybe I ought to go watch Black Swan too!! LOL!!!

Enjoy your Monday!!!! Take care

That Black Swan movie looks really creepy. That Showgirls movie is really lame. It should have just been a skinemax late night flic.

Oh, thank goodness I'm not the only one with the "oops, it's Monday already?" disease.

Haven't seen Black Swan...but since I thought Showgirls wasn't all that, I'm not sure if the comparison makes me want to rush off to see it.

Oh, I'm totally a pop writer. I just want people to enjoy what I write. Though I'm probably more of a ballad singing pop star, than a snappy song-and-dance kind.

The laughing person is the reason I go to the theaters far less nowadays and my wife lets me spend beaucoups of money on our home theater system. :)

I could email most of you~
@Tracy--I know! I think it was that Friday fest that did it... :D I liked BS, but I'm not sure how much the laughing lady played into that. She really didn't bother me. ("song & dance"... *snort*)~ :D

I like writing for the sheer entertainment value, too. I don't think I'm a pop writer. Maybe more like an angsty folk ballad writer. ;)

That's why I try and write ideas down for blog posts. They flit in and out of my head; and, of course, looking at a blank page is the last place I ever get ideas! :) And if I'm not entertaining myself when I write then something is wrong!

Unknown said...

I keep a word document for blog ideas or videos, because there is NO WAY I could count on my memory.

So nice you can just "run down to the waves"!

LTM said...

@Laura--it's a great idea. Usually if I think of something, I'll make a note. Lots on the mind at the moment, but I'll be back~ :D <3

Oh, interesting observation by JRM on Black Swan. I havne't seen it, but definitely want to. I like a little madness... though I will probably see it on video, unless my daughter really wants to go. Hubby isn't very tolerant of ... well... anything, movie wise. And I am with you on laughing and crying with whoever needs some company...

Black Swan is something I'll throw on my Netflix queue... Now I need to go finish Marbury Lens!!!

Colene Murphy said...

I'm going to see it this weekend! It looks really trippy. So, NOT Show Girls then? (I mean, I honestly didn't hate that movie either but I didn't think it was so much psychological...lol)

Lola Sharp said...

Oh mans, there is so much to tackle here...

Being Human is the show...and the SyFy version is only one episode in (and on repeat, so you can still catch it), and it's okay. I mean, it just started so I'm being patient. BUT, the UK version (BBC) is excellent.

Black Swan was way WAY better than Showgirls, but I can see the comparison, sort of. The campy-ness, the sexual-ness, the competitiveness for starring role, those all are there in both movies. Black Swan takes the crazy to another level while Showgirls takes stripper to another level with less talent in the acting dept.

I think there are some weird scenes in BS where laughing nervously at the campy nature of it seems about right. ;) Also, I'm with you, sister...no one laughs or cries alone in my presence either. :)

I'm sorry you aren't feeling well. Take lots of vitamin C and drink plenty of fluids...chase it away.

Huggles,
Lola

If I'd have had a laugher behind me for Black Swan, I probably would have had to drown her in my industrial-sized Coke.

I haven't seen Black Swan but I want to. And, you're a pop writer? Don't know what I am...probably one of my problems, LOL.

I'm hosting a blogfest -- stop over and check it out!!

((hugs)) Nicole

@Beer--you know, it really wasn't that bad. I thought it was funny, actually... :D maybe it was one of those location things~ <3

I want to see Black Swan...might have to wait for Netflix though since it's not in a theater close to me.

Being Human is a good show, it's based on a british series...if you like sci-fi I'd say check it out. (although the ghost is a little annoying in the new version.)

I've never heard of being a pop writer, great description. I think I'm one too. I like a story to be entertaining.

LTM said...

@Demitria--thanks for the tip! Good to know. I DVR'd the first two episodes last night, so I'm forewarned~ :o) <3

I'm glad to hear you liked Black Swan. I've been really wanting to see it. Maybe I'll take myself this week. Not sure my hubby's gonna want to tag along for this one.

I saw the acceptance speech of the kid from GLEE who won the Academy Award. It was really moving. I'm assuming the Entertainment Weekly article had something to do with that?

Anyway, I hope you feel better soon! And no need to apologize. Take care of yourself first!

I can only wish to have a mushy-brain-trying-to-write-a-blog-post-moment and come up with something as good as this one! I'm a bit mush-brained on my tomorrow's post. I'm trying to channel your creativity. Nope. Nothing. Might be a blank one! So sweet of you to laugh along with the lady so she didn't feel so alone. And creepy. :0) Hope you get rid of the cold! christy

I'm pretending I'm not getting sick, and hoping that works. :)

Ok, people who laugh at the drama parts - I'm watching my back as I leave the theatre, just in case. Creepy!

Shannon said...

I loved Black Swan. Luckily, the theater was empty when Michael and I went, so we were able to enjoy it in silence.

Nobody laughs or cries alone in my presence. - I'm right there with you. And love love love this movie. No matter how many times I've seen it (hundreds), I bawl every.single.time.

Hope you're not getting sick.

That story of the woman in the theater laughing reminds me of years ago when I saw Sleepless in Seattle for the first time in the theater. Well, by then it had been out for awhile and these women sitting in front of us kept snorting and guffawing ahead of every punch line. Omigosh did that ever ruin the movie for me!! But I've made up for it by watching it about a zillion times over on video and now DVD.

I'm sorry to hear you're not feeling well! My son and husband have been sick, and it's no picnic.

As for The Black Swan, I can't believe it's being compared to Showgirls (worst move ever made - imho). How can that be, and then get nominated for stuff? I guess stranger things have happened.

Feel better soon :(

Tara said...

Haven't seen that movie, and probably won't. I honestly can't even remember the last movie over PG that I've seen in a theater! I don't watch TV, so sitting for 2 solid hours in front of a giant screen is near impossible for me. Simply because I'm too antsy.

Hmm, you saw my list so it won't come as a surprise probably: I'd say I'm an alternative rock writer, with a touch of Emo and Pop.

I love people like that because you can find some way to work them into your novels. I once went on a date with a guy who talked through an entire movie. Guess what unappealing quality the jerky guy in my latest WIP has?

I'm dying to get my hands on the new EW because I'm madly in love with Darren Criss and Glee. (The article also looks pretty awesome, too!)

I still don't understand what all the ruckus about showgirls was about, besides it being soft porn. The acting and dancing was just...very very ninetees. Haven't heard of black swan!

I want to see, "Black Swan" thanks for keeping it brief. I know there is always someone loud or laughing at odd moments.

"Being Human" is the new series. It is odd, I rented it on Netflix. It original is a British series(BBC).
I love it; not so thrilled, yet with the American version. The characters in the British version are lively and interesting; American version pales in comparison. My son told me last night the BBC made season 3. So, if you want to watch it, I'd go with renting the BBC version. There are 2 seasons and a 3rd one now airing, not the one on Scfy...this is brand new, I think this is week two.
(555, today... :-D ) I'm in the
end of S2D3, it has captured my attention.(Mitchell is cute)~

I haven't seen either movie, but I have experienced a person ruining a movie before. In that case, they were talking to the friend next to them the whole time. Ah...to own a squirt gun.

Was your husband mocking Black Swan? I only wonder because Showgirls wasn't top notch and from what I've heard I am hoping he's joking lol.

I love those who ruin movies if I hate the movie myself but not if I'm enjoying it (double standard - absolutely)

Lydia Kang said...

I would have thrown popcorn at the laugher.

Actually, I am really too nice for that. I'd just fantasize about throwing popcorn at her.

Okay, I've been a bad commenter so I'm making it up in mass form. Plus this one was a recommended post and I couldn't pass it up.

I laughed my A off as well. It helped disperse the tension. In fact, that's how I watch most shows that are terribly awkward. :P
