What Do Readers Think and #WIN!

Launching a new book is exciting and terrifying and always FUN!

The last time I went through this was June 30, 2014, with Mosaic, and I pretty much did it by myself. Haha!

This go-round I've teamed up with Inspired Kathy and YA Bound, two great services I've known since I released The Truth About Faking in Sept 2012. Basically, I love these guys!

If you missed it, Behind the Stars rolled out as a serialized novel on November 9. The first episode "Captive" (Ch. 1-5) is FREE on all platforms if you'd like a taste.

"Serialized" means the story is released in small chunks, like they used to do with novels in the old magazine days. Some readers dig the format, others don't. Regardless of which side you're on, ALL the "episodes" are out now, or you can get the complete novel by clicking here (link).

Please follow the Tour, and you can WIN! What's up for grabs? Signed copies of Behind the Stars, "Captive" (Episode 1), SWAG!, or an Amazon Gift Card!

Here's the tour:

Last Days... Summer, the Tour, to #WIN

Fall is in the air, friends--can you believe it? I'll just go on record and say I do NOT. This has been the fastest summer evah!

It started with the Dragonfly release, then the SFINE author event, which was Awesome--visiting with great friends Jolene Perry, Bethany Lopez, Aleatha Romig, Ashley Wilcox... I need to share pictures... #comingsoon!

I also had the privilege of doing a library workshop in Fairhope, near my old hometown, and the local bookstore there is carrying signed copies of all my paperbacks now. #cool #humbling

The Undertow Tour has been a great success! Today's the final day, and I'm over on two of my FAVORITE blogs with excerpts and reviews...

-Tiffany Talks Books has an Exclusive Anna + Julian excerpt that starts like this:

"My dilemma was heavy on my mind, but more than that, I didn’t want to wait anymore. I’d read too much about people in love being kept apart.

I was terrified of us getting closer and Julian finding out what I knew, but in this moment, with him standing right here in front of me, I didn’t want to think about Bill Kyser anymore. I didn’t want to worry about the past. I wanted to think about my future..." (click here for the rest)

-What's Beyond Forks? has all the gorgeous picture-teasers and a great review.

At both stops, you can still enter to #WIN signed paperbacks, exclusive eARCs of Watercolor, and more!

And don't forget, Dragonfly is on sale for 99 cents only two more days!

On Amazon

Next week, the girls go back to school, and I get back into writing mode. I actually love the fall, and I can't wait to share more of Anna + Julian's story with you...

Is it okay to be a little nostalgic, first?

Have a super week, reader-friends~

Rockin #Undertow Friday and You Can #WIN!

Happy Friday, reader-friends!

I'm out of town at the moment--rambling around the exact location where Dragonfly, Undertow, and the whole series is set! I'll take some pictures for sharing later~

In the meantime, want to know what MUSIC inspired the story?

Nicole & Nicole over at Book Addicts Not-So Anonymous (link) have The Playlist! Run over and see how Wham! and Bruce Springsteen can go together to tell a tragic tale... (link)

Nicole also gave Undertow a RAVE, saying, "It is very scandalous, but I found my heart breaking for Lexy and Billy despite their betrayal of Meg, which tells me one thing Leigh creates AMAZING characters who even when they are doing wrong we still love and root for them."

While there, enter to #WIN signed copies of Dragonfly and Undertow, Exclusive eARCs of Watercolor, your own Private Journal, and SWAG!

Run over and join the fun (link)!

Remember, Dragonfly is still on SALE for 99 cents! Here's a little picture-teaser for ya:

Only 99 cents! On Amazon
Have a super weekend, friends~

Magan Vernon is a FAB writer-friend and awesome critique partner. And I'm SO excited to help spread the word on her new book, The Only One.

-Lindy over at A Bookish Escape has an Exclusive Excerpt from Bill's private diary. It's the scene where he's first struggling with his emerging feelings... Go here to check it out (link)!

She also gave Undertow a RAVE, saying "Undertow was a thrill ride a moment, and I enjoyed the ride! This series has become an addiction for me! Read this series for a complex story about love, lies, betrayals, deceptions, and unfulfilled desires..." (click here for the full review)

Honor student, manager at the campus coffee shop, owner of an impressive sweater collection – Melanie Wilder has it all together. Then John “John Boy” Walden strolls into her life wearing nothing more than an impish grin and all-too-revealing loin cloth.

Soon, make-out sessions replace homework, lust triumphs over work. And to further crumble her perfect world, an unexpected phone call threatens to take away everything she’s worked for.

Now, as Melanie struggles to pick up the pieces, she realizes that John may be the only one to put her life back together…unless he shatters it first.

Exclusive Excerpt from The Only One:

I looked around the basement, sipping whatever concoction some guy poured out of a cooler. He called it a ‘magic potion’ and I hoped that didn’t mean he rufied it. I don’t know how Monica talked me into this.

A horde of girls clad in nothing more than lingerie pushed past me as if I were nothing more than another one of the paddles on the paneled wall. I tried to pull back but then I came face to chest with a set of abs and felt all of the magic potion cascade down my cardigan.

I gasped once the cold liquid soaked through both my layers and hit my skin.

“Too bad, that was such a nice sweater…” A deep voice said.

I looked up, all the way past the chiseled six pack and to a pair of cool blue eyes. “Maybe you should just take it off up in my room and I can help you dry off.” He leaned in, his full lips right on my ear. “Or make you wetter.”

My breath caught in my throat, rendering me speechless. Luckily my best friend Monica jumped between us, pushing the guy back so I got a full view of him and realized he was only wearing a loin cloth and a large smile.

"Down John Boy." She scowled at him and then turned to me, almost knocking her beret off. "What the hell happened to you?"

"I-I-I spilled my drink."

Monica's eyes narrowed as she looked down at the red liquid soaking through my gray sweater. She whipped her head around to the loin cloth clad guy. "Was this your fault? Are you trying to get my friend naked?"

He held up his hands, a cockeyed grin on his face. "Purely an accident, Lib."

Ah, now I knew where I’d seen him before. He had come into the coffee shop we worked at a few times. I don’t think he even glanced in my direction more than to hand me his student ID to pay, but was always calling Monica ‘Lib.’ I’m guessing because she was an extreme liberal.

Monica's boyfriend, the governor's son Trey Chapman, pushed through the crowd. When I usually saw him he was polished in dress pants and a dress shirt, but his Halloween costume was nothing more than a pair of American flag boxers, a dress shirt, and some gray hairspray. He looked ridiculous. I still don't know how Monica talked him into the Clinton and Lewinsky couples costumes.

"Hey, I’ve been looking for you." He slipped his arm around Monica's waist. "What's going on here?"

"Your big brother here spilled a drink on Melanie to try and get her naked."

"Hey!" John yelled.

"It wasn't his fault," I piped in. "It’s crowded here and he just ran into me. It’s fine."

"Fine?" Monica raised her eyebrows. "That Hermione costume you've been wearing since middle school is covered in ever clear and Kool aid. That’s not fine."

"I haven't worn this since middle school!" Okay, truth was, it was my go-to costume. I bought it for the first movie's midnight showing and wore it for every movie opening and Halloween since.

"Whatever." Monica turned her head to Trey and tugged on his shirt. "You can just wear Trey's shirt."

Can't WAIT for this one guys! In the meantime, have a super day! Back tomorrow~

"I walked over to the desk and took the top off my husband’s decanter of scotch. I’ve never been much of a drinker, so I poured a tall glass to the brim.

My first big gulp burned all the way down, past my shredded heart to my trembling stomach. I coughed and continued looking for evidence of the traitor in my life.

On the table at the foot of the stairs was a shot of the two of us wearing sombreros in Tango Sol. I threw it as hard as I could, smashing a plate-glass mirror..."  (click here to read the rest!)

Undertow: Lexy Talks About Meg & the Dream Cast!

True Confession, reader-friends: I was so nervous about plunging readers so deeply into the story of Meg, Lexy, & Bill in Undertow.

Their story is really sad and pretty twisted. And readers only just met two of these characters in Dragonfly...

But everything that happens in Undertow controls the rest of the series, so you had to know. It's going to touch every character, and it really hits Julian hardest.

Can you hear my HUGE sigh of relief that so many reader-friends are loving it?

This Five Bloody Crescent review by Roxy Kade made me smile so big: "My heart shattered into a million tiny pieces, rebuilt itself and then melted over and over again with each flip of the page."

Read the whole thing here (link).

And then Asheley Tart loved Dragonfly so much, I was seriously biting my nails when she read Undertow. Her 5-star review made the birthday bright yesterday.

"I didn't realize that I would end up so emotionally invested, devastated, in love with, and wrapped up in Undertow. I just wasn't expecting all of this, but I gosh how I loved it."

Please run over and check out her full review (here)!

TODAY on the Blog Tour, I have special treats for you!

-Lexy lists TEN THINGS she thinks you should know about Meg on Brianna Lee Book Reviews (link).

Those two were life-long best friends, and Undertow shows how that friendship changed and ultimately shattered. So it's interesting stuff.

-You'll also get to see the DREAM CAST for the series--including FAN-made Dream Casts over on FicTalk (link).

***I'll still send a signed bookmark to fans who email their Dream Cast collages to me, leightmoore(at)gmail.com and I'll post them on my Facebook Page.

You can also still enter to #WIN signed copies of Dragonfly and Undertow, Exclusive eARCs of Watercolor, private journals, and all kinds of swag at both stops. So run over and visit!

Fun times. I hope you're enjoying the books--I hope you'll leave a review!

Thank you so much. Have a super day, reader-friends~

San Francisco is #SFINE - You with me?

Hello, lovely reader-friends--I. Am. Flying!

Literally.

Undertow eARCs are due today, and I've got a few remaining tweaks left... so I'm keeping this short.

I'll be boarding a plane at 7 a.m. tomorrow to be at the San Francisco Indie Author Event (link), and it is going to be awesome!

Please let me know if you'll be there!

In the meantime, Dragonfly is happily flying, too~

THANK YOU to everyone who's bought it, loved it, tweeted at me, emailed me, or left a message on my Facebook page (link). If you have a chance, please consider posting a short review on Amazon (link) and/or Goodreads (link)!

Undertow is right on track. I'm posting updates on the Facebook page, and the big Cover Reveal is next week! Then come the picture teasers... whee!!!

Undertow is the first book I wrote that I literally fell in love with. If it weren't for that book, this series might still be in the drawer... no lie. And I can't wait for you guys to read it.

On Saturday, before (or after!) you visit me at #SFINE, please remember to stop by the Dragonfly tour (link)!
And have a lovely weekend, my friends; Happy Father's Day to the Dads~

Today on the tour...

Revising and Reading and Tours... oh yes!

Undertow revisions are drawing to a close, and I have to confess, the second book in a series is always the scariest.

What are readers expecting? Will they be let down if I don't give them that? But I don't have psychic powers!!!

In the meantime--apart from that freakout I'm doing my best to ignore so my revision process doesn't completely shut down--I'm having tons of fun with this tour and would like to Thank everyone who's participated and also the lovely KP Simmons of Inkslinger PR (link) for making it possible.

The Complete Tour Listing is here (link) if you missed any days or want to know what's coming.

I've got to get back in the revisions cave, but please be aware, every time I come out, I'm looking to see what readers are saying about Dragonfly. Thanks so much for your positive feedback!

Here's where I am today

What's this?

If you're in the San Francisco area, a quick reminder that I'll be at the SFINE author event (link) on Saturday. I hope you'll drop by and say hello!

Back to the revision cave for me. I hope you're all having a lovely summer week, friends ((hugs))~

Dreams, Changes, and #FUN stuff!

Dragonfly was the first book I ever wrote and tried to sell to agents back in 2009.

Back then, it wasn't perfect, my novel-writing skills were poor. I'd only been a journalist, an editor, and a former English major and teacher.

But I got a lot of full requests, and polite rejections. I think 15 was the final number before I put it away in 2010. Some pretty big names, too (Paige Wheeler, Kevan Lyons, Kelly Sonnack, etc.)

I loved the story, the characters, the journey. I loved writing it, and I couldn't wait for everyone to read it. In the year I'd spent waiting to hear back from those guys, I'd written Undertow (#2), Watercolor (#3), and started Mosaic (#4)...

...and then I read Nathan Bransford's advice: If you can't sell the first book in a series, why are you still writing it? (Basically, stop and write something new.)

He was right. And it hurt so bad.

But I put my dream books in the virtual drawer, dusted myself off, and wrote The Truth About Faking. Then, while I was shopping it, I wrote Rouge. And I got a literary agent. And in 2011, I got an offer for a book deal with a Big 6 publisher.

In the meantime, several of the lovely critique partners, advice sharers, and friends I'd made through this blog had started self-publishing. It was still early in the indie game, and it was still considered a huge risk.

We were told that if you self-published, you could kiss any traditional dreams goodbye. We were told, the traditional guys wouldn't touch an idie book with a 10-foot pole. We were told you instantly became a pariah.

But my friends were risk-takers. One--Susan Kaye Quinn--had gone the small press route with her first book, a YA romance, and after that experience, she took the reins and went independent with her very successful science fiction book Open Minds.

And after my agent couldn't sell The Truth About Faking, I decided to self-publish it. In Sept. 2011 it came out, and it's still selling very well today.

Why am I tell you all this?

Because it broke my heart when I put Dragonfly in the drawer. I believed that book was dead, and I'd never have the joy of sharing it with readers... and I was wrong.

Granted, in February when I decided to pull it out again, it still had all those first novel problems. I had to take a sledgehammer to it, break it apart, put it back together, remove all the boring parts, beef up the tension, polish out the dialogue...

But my dream came true last week. And every time someone emails me that they love the story or they can't wait for July 18, I get a little misty. So much is changing in publishing, and it's a wonderful time to be a writer.

Follow the path that's right for you, traditional or indie, but no matter what, hold onto your dream. Be persistent. Don't listen to what "they" say. And for goodness sake, just keep swimming!

The Dragonfly tour continues!
Finally, looking for #FUN? Romance Reviews is doing a Sizzling Summer Reads ginormous book giveaway and Dragonfly is a part!

Check it out!

Visit The Romance Reviews site (link) for all the fun, but watch out! That game's addicting... (The Dragonfly Q&A is #19.)

Have a super week, reader- and writer-friends! I'm in final edits for Undertow, but I'll be back with more tour stops tomorrow~

Dream Cast #contest, Reviews, and Excerpts, Oh My!

Official Tour Dates

Happy weekend, reader- and writer-friends!

I'm posting a double-header Dragonfly Tour Update for today and tomorrow with a #FUN idea (+SWAG) I hope you'll want to join in!

I was asked for my Dream Cast for Dragonfly, but since I wrote the book way back in 2009, my Dream Cast is somewhat outdated.

Here's my idea: Why not have a Reader Dream Cast contest! With a chance to #WIN some #SWAG!!!
(Or we'll do a vote for like the Top 10.)

Does that sound like fun?

So here are Today & Tomorrow's Tour Stops:

And to prevent my other book babies from feeling neglected, MaryAnn at Chapter by Chapter posted a Review (link) of The Truth About Letting Go that literally made me cry-smile. See what you think (link)!

On Sunday, be sure to stop by

Have a lovely weekend, my friends! I appreciate you in advance~

Tee with "A Diary of A Book Addict" (link):

"Five of Five stars! HOLY MOTHER OF PEARL! From the first page I was captivated by Dragonfly because it is a read like no other. There are so many twists and turns and secrets that with every page turn I was jumping for joy because I needed to get my mind wrapped around everything that was happening."

[Hello! Yes, I'm in love with that one! (whoop whoop!)]

Jessica with "Lovin Los Libros" (link):

"A bit of everything: teen angst, drama, romance (a bit of a love triangle), and intrigue... the mystery behind the Kyser family and then Julian's mom is what really intrigued me."

[Yay! Good to know because that's the main focus of Undertow, coming July 18!]

Thanks Tee and Jessica! And these great reviews were posted yesterday if you missed them:

And I'd love to know what YOU think! If you like my books (or any author's books), consider leaving a review on Amazon and/or Goodreads! Great reviews really help us!
